If you aren't a party planner, you may have questions on where to begin!

Food for Shower

Decisions on what Baby Shower Recipes to prepare and the amount of food to buy should be based on the number of men, women and kids that are going to be attending the baby shower.

So if you have favorite recipe that you have enjoyed at special events or a friend that has a great dip recipe, call and ask to use it! All of those would be appropriate to serve. Consider sharing those delicious appetizers with our readers.

Baby Shower Recipes:
Day of the Event

Our event was held on a very hot August afternoon from 2:00-5:00. There were 48 people (men, women and a few kids) in attendance.

So I had to really think about the food and the baby food recipes that I was preparing for the event and most importantly, make sure there was enough food for all!

The preparation and cooking took several days. Many recipes were from our Rogers' Family Cookbook compiled in 2007 for our family reunion and various other special cookbooks that I have purchased through the years. I decided to prepare the following recipes of various appetizers, candy and desserts:

  • Finger Sandwiches (all homemade: chicken salad, pimento cheese, and tuna fish) on croissants for the ladies
  • Multi-breads assembly sandwiches of ham, selected turkey choices, salami, and various cheeses selections for the men
  • 7 Different Dips and various chips (Cheese, guacamole, Ranch, Spinach, and other delicious hot and cold dips)
  • Variety of fruit, vegetable, and cheese trays with dips
  • Hand made Tortilla Rollups or Pinwheels and Party Meatballs
  • Multiple salads including: Nana's Fruit Salad (a family favorite), Mrs. McNally's Green bean and corn salad, Nana's Pink Salad, and many other sides.

Baby Shower Recipes:
Desserts Enjoyed by All

  • Beautifully decorated purchased cupcakes on stands placed on the Dining Room table with nuts and mints along with that "Best Punch I've Ever Had" delicious punch! See this recipe below.
  • Oh, and I almost forgot tea, cold drinks and "The Best-punch-recipe-I've-ever-had! (On hot days, have plenty of punch ingredients available....made 7 batches that day and still people were wanting more) and of course, water.
  • Buy bags of ice too. We didn't serve beer or wine since it was an early afternoon event. If you are having an evening shower, then I would consider a wine spritzer and margaritas for the ladies and beer for the guys.
  • Oh, did I mention, have enough food and beverages!!! Consider purchasing an extra meat tray and veggie tray from the deli in case you run out of food. You can always use the leftovers for lunch the next day!

As people arrived, relax and enjoy the event! It is so much fun to see your kids interacting with their friends about their pregnancy and future babies!

Baby Shower Recipes:
Sharing a punch recipe...

This is a recipe that we often have had at family and holiday parties, baby showers and even a grand opening of a library. It is known as the "Best Punch Recipe Ever!" This recipe has been doubled, tripled and quadrupled to make enough for the gathering!

One of my good friends that I met while working at Raytheon, Donna Maestas from McKinney, shared this recipe with me years ago and I think of her each time I make it! It is scrumptiously and refreshingly delicious!

Best Punch Recipe Ever

1 46 oz can unsweetened pineapple juice

1 46 oz can apricot nectar

3 6 0z cans frozen lemonade, thawed and undiluted

4 10 oz bottles ginger ale

  • Make sure all ingredients are well chilled before mixing
  • Mix first 3 ingredients together
  • Just before serving, add ginger ale

This is a pretty punch with an ice ring made with juice and slices of fruit (oranges and maraschino cherries).

Makes 5 quarts.
