Fun activities for grandchildren is key to a healthy family relationship!
So when my husband and I aren’t with our grandchildren, we think about them and what fun activities we can have with them in the future. We really love being with our grandsons and feel that it is such an honor to be living close enough so that we can spend this quality time with them and their family.
I told my husband today that I hope as the boys get older we can take a vacation with their family and enjoy those times together. He laughed and said he hope that we can “take the boys on a trip” alone!
Our grandsons are still so young, but I look forward to the future when we can plan fun activities for grandchildren whether in our home, in the yard, a museum, library or on a cruise ship!
When my children were young, I was a school librarian and only had the summer months to enjoy the flexibility to take them to “fun and educational” activities. My husband was a military officer and traveled often. Now I hope to be able to share in events more often with the twins.
These events usually were to increase social contacts and learning activities that would be meaningful for each child.
Now to create fun activities for grandchildren, consider the following :
This past weekend, I was invited to help my daughter with learn and playtime at Gymboree.
So much fun watching small children all the same age and various developmental stages, playing together on mats, inclines and structures.
The 45 minute program is a weekly experience that includes socialization and excitement for any young child.
Other play areas include Going Bonkers which also has a Toddler Play areas for under age 3 babies. It is a fun, safe outing for your grandbabies, but be prepared, you must be active too! Loads of laughs and fun for all!
When it isn’t too hot in Texas or other parts of the country, try to involve your grandkids in outdoor activities. Make sure you put mosquito repellent and smear on the suntan lotion before the grandbabies go outdoors. Also, put caps and sun shades on each child to help protect their skin while outside.
Over a year ago, we considered our future! We thought, what fun activities for grandchildren that we could have if only we lived closer. We found a beautiful home about 15 minutes from our children located on an acre of land. Yes, we relocated, just for the excitement, joy and fun activities for grandchildren!
Since there is a pool just outside our back door, we must constantly be aware of the grandchildren's location when outside!
concerned about pool safety and are planning to have a fenced pool area before they are able to walk. Also, there were be several other safety measures put in place before they go swimming in 2013.
We loved the lot since behind this area, there is flat space for them to run and play now and eventually play soccer and other sports in the future throughout the year.
They will have a great time pulling weeds or harvesting the vegetables. Then they can eat those homegrown tomatoes, carrots, okra or beans for lunch. They may want to eat the apples or pears off the trees.
My husband planted trees to acknowledge their birth. Share with them which tree their grandfather planted. Let them water the trees when they come to visit. The grandkids may want to print out a label or paint a sign with their name to label their tree.
Make this a fun, memorable activity.
Most of our entertainment now is inside and involves anything that will make a noise from plush stuffed toys, riding toys, and excersaucers. These items are the key entertainment for a 10 month old. We also sing, dance, tickle, and laugh to keep them entertained. When we babysit, we keep the television turned off throughout the day.
We do realize that when you babysit an older child and it is raining outside, you must find interesting fun activities inside your home for 12 hours or so. You may introduce a new toy that you had hidden in the closet, electronic game or device that will immediately interest them or a new book from the library or bookstore.
Other fun activities for grandchildren that you can offer without plopping them down in front of a television or videotape for hours include:
Please watch Nana Feona share her dancing skills on YouTube!
This is a compilation of places that we have taken our grandkids and I'm sure there will be many more through the years!
Church Vacation Bible School
Outside in backyard to play, swim or garden
Inside for playing (singing and dancing) music or baking cookies
Neighborhood park or pool
Please share fun activities that you have had with your Grandchildren. Whether it is a trip to the local library or a vacation that your family enjoyed together....we want to hear how you have created memories!
